HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONS
Gams Belgium and Femme & Santé
The Group for the Abolition of Female Genital Mutilation (GAMS Belgium), as its name suggests, works towards the abolition of female genital mutilation (FGM) in Belgium and worldwide. The GAMS Belgium team collaborates with affected communities and carries out work in prevention, support, professional training and advocacy.
Femmes et Santé promotes a feminist approach to health while questioning the medicalisation of women’s life cycles and the impact of gender inequalities on both health and healthcare. Its mission is to reduce social and health inequalities linked to gender through a comprehensive, feminist, egalitarian and supportive approach.
Both NGOs were facing a lack of understanding regarding the different professional roles within their teams.
The communities affected by FGM, as well as certain institutional and associative stakeholders, are not always aware of the full range of available services or how to access them. This can hinder the support offered to victims and slow down prevention efforts.
To address this challenge, GAMS Belgium needed to present its different professional roles in a clear and engaging way — to dispel misconceptions, provide practical information, and answer common questions that women concerned may not dare to ask.
It was in this context, and with the objective of removing barriers to consultation, breaking taboos surrounding sexual and reproductive health, and encouraging better access to care for the affected populations, that GAMS Belgium and Femmes et Santé commissioned us to develop a short animated series presenting the various professions working within these associations.
To support GAMS Belgium in its awareness-raising and mobilisation work, we…
-
Conducted an audience survey to better understand their perception of key concepts and to identify the most effective narrative and visual choices.
-
Developed a narrative concept designed to make essential information easier to understand for people affected by FGM and gender-based violence, as well as for the wider public.
-
Designed an artistic direction aligned with previously produced videos, featuring inclusive graphic choices.
-
Created graphic assets and high-quality storyboards to prepare the animation of each episode.
-
Animated the illustrations at a slow pace to ensure better understanding for audiences less familiar with this type of medium.
-
Added a bespoke musical composition tailored to the visuals.
Additionally, we provided a communication pack made of the illustrative and graphic work produced during this project. This enabled GAMS Belgium to take ownership of the communication campaign associated and disseminate it effectively and consistently across their various channels (social media, newsletters, website, print communication, etc.).
