SEA RAFES
Institut Pasteur
Research studies in the field of health have multiplied in sub-Saharan Africa in recent decades. While health research is essential for advancing scientific knowledge and the fight against diseases affecting the countries of the Region, it inevitably raises the question of the risks incurred by the participants and that of the equitable sharing of the results of the research.

When a laboratory requests them, the participants are not always sufficiently informed about the tests carried out and their living conditions can encourage them to accept the pressure exerted by the laboratories.

Hence the importance of the SEA-RAFES project (Strengthening and EnhAncing the Réseau Africain Francophone d'Éthique en Santé) and ethics committees: made up of people with various skills, they make it possible to filter proposals such as the one from Professor Guindo, to inform the participants in a transparent way and thus to protect them against corporations which, for some, show little morality.
