INTER-AFRICAN MIGRATION

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) is the leading inter-governmental organisation dedicated to migration. With 175 Member States, 8 Observer States and offices in over 100 countries, IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, be they refugees, displaced persons or other uprooted people.

Conflicts, armed violence, disasters, epidemics, pandemics and other crises force millions of people to leave their homes and communities, sometimes for years or even decades. More than 82 million people are currently living in displacement within and across borders with disasters displacing around 25 million on average each year. Economic downturns, political instability and other drivers also compel large population movements.

As part of this project, IOM aims to present its actions in Central and West Africa, highlighting the diversity of situations and the many risks faced by migrants. The project is addressed to policy-makers and stakeholders concerned with migration issues in these regions.

What we did:

In order to meet the awareness-raising goals on the reality of migration, we designed an educational animated video that (1) breaks down the preconceived ideas of migration - mainly in neighbouring countries, (2) explains the threats (violence, exploitation, abuse...) faced by migrants and, most importantly, (3) presents the mechanisms and solutions put in place by the IOM

Thanks to our work, IOM was able to convince enough stakeholders to fund part of their work in the Central and West African region.
