WORK PERMITS
PICUM
Today in Europe, migrant workers do essential work and are crucial to many sectors of our economies. But despite the huge demand for workforce, it’s incredibly difficult to come to work and the limits on work permits leave migrant workers at the mercy of exploitative employers.
The NGO lobby to increase the availability of work permits and make them decent. They advocate that we can answer the huge demand for workforce AND respect the individuals. Indeed, Europe needs permits which ensure that migrant workers can change jobs and work with proper contracts, better matching their skills and labour market demand. So that work is declared, reinforcing social security and public services, so that everyone can stand up for decent pay and working conditions without fear and abuse.
With this audiovisual communication campaign, PICUM aimed to support their lobbying of political decision-makers and promote the release of the report Guide to Undocumented Workers' Rights at Work under International and EU law.
So that everyone can stand up for decent pay and working conditions without fear and abuse.

What we did:

To meet PICUM's expectations in terms of popularization and communication, we created a narrative concept made of real migrants' narratives, screenplayed in parallel to expose the diversity of beneficiaries' situations, and taking up the main abusive situations identified.
We defined a sober aesthetic that would enable effective and relevant storytelling for a wide audience in a simple but efficient 2D animation, to address both the general public and political european political decision-makers. Through our storytelling choices and visual work, we 1) explained the issues surrounding migrant labour in Europe, 2) the reasons why migrant workers are legally in a situation of total control by certain employers and 3) encouraged the audience to find out more at PICUM and read their reports.
The campaign was published on all of PICUM's networks, as well as on their website, and the artistic direction of this project was so appreciated that PICUM asked us for reusing it for several other video campaigns with similar objectives.
